Five Friday Favorites | 62 | Italian Restaurant, Christmas Tree, Colored Legal Pads, Sarah Flint Boots & More

nyc restaurant, nyc italian restaurant, legal pad, colored legal pad, sarah flint, ankle boot, sarah flint boot, sarah flint sample sale, christmas tree, just salad

 1.          La Pecora Bianca-  This spot is so delicious! You have to get the fried zucchini, burrata and meatballs. I loved the tagliatelle Bolognese.

2.          Blue legal pad- I picked up some colorful legal pads for work and they have been quite the hit in the office. I honestly didn’t even realize I was writing on a colorful piece of paper, until several people noticed. I think it’s fun to take notes on a pretty colored legal pad, as opposed to white or yellow.

3.          Sarah Flint Perfect Dress Bootie 60 mm- I picked up this $750 heeled bootie for $200 at the Sarah Flint sample sale last week. I grabbed my regular size of 40. Maybe I should’ve sized up, not sure. They’re pretty tight on my toes, but like all good Sarah Flint shoes, they stretch very well over time. I think they need some more breaking in. I think they’re beautiful and nothing like anything else in my collection. Sadly, on the second day of wearing them, I stepped into a crack on the sidewalk and some of the suede on the heel broke off…I was so not amused, but lesson learned, I can’t even wear tiny heels on my commute! Flat sneakers only.

4.          The smell of Christmas trees- Team real tree or fake? We got our tree this past weekend and it makes the house smell amazing. We have always gotten a real tree. The tradition of going to pick out a tree with my family is one of favorite holiday traditions.

5.          Just Salad reusable container- For a dollar you can buy a Just Salad branded reusable container and then you get a dollar off your salad purchase every time you bring in your container! I think it’s a great deal and you can help save the planet. I bought one and now it sits in my desk drawer, ready for its next use.

How to be an Attorney: Part 6: How to Get a Job

how to be an attorney, law school, attorney, lawyer, job, internship, law student, legal job, law firm, big law, suiting, legal intern

Welcome back to my series on how to be an attorney. This is everything I wish I knew about how to find a job as a law student. You can read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5 here.

Big Law:

What I didn’t know about law school before going, is that the kids within the top percentage of the class get hand selected for interviews from big law firms the summer going into their second year to serve as summer associates. The law school facilitates these interviews. Those interviews for the summer associate position start in the summer after your first year of law school.

Once you become a summer associate you hopefully get offered a position by the end of the summer, and then you will have a job going into your last year of law school.

Internships:

In a similar realm, a lot of students get their full-time jobs after interning at a position over the summer going into their third year.

On-Campus Recruiting:

Another way to get a job is through on-campus recruiting in the fall and spring of your last year of law school. This is usually from alumni who are hiring or firms that pull a lot of kids traditionally from your school. This also includes government positions like district attorney jobs.

Online Job Postings:

On top of all of the opportunities above, there are also job postings on LinkedIn, Indeed and Glassdoor. Most of these postings don’t open up until the spring semester.

A lot of jobs also open up after graduation, while studying for the bar exam, which is extra stressful, and I wouldn’t recommend. I would focus on studying and then getting a job after you finish all your studies.

A ton of people get jobs post bar exam. Although this feels like the minority of cases, you would be surprised. There are so many job postings in the fall after graduation as firms figure out who else they need to add to their office.

In Sum:

I wish I wouldn’t have been so stressed out about finding a job in my last year of law school. The reality is, you are graduating with a law degree. You are worth so much and you are so marketable. You will get a job, even if it’s not under the circumstances or the timing you want or you expect.

Five Friday Favorites | 61 | Burger Restaurant NYC, Night at the Met Museum, Black Boucle Blazer, NYC Tacos & More

nyc restaurant, nyc restaurants, met, metropolitan museum of art, abercrombie, black blazer, boucle blazer, tacos, nyc tacos, nyc coffee shop, nyc cafe

 1.          JG Melon- This Upper East Side place is famous for their burgers! This restaurant is cash only and doesn’t take reservations. I got a cheeseburger with bacon, fries and a Coke. I loved it. I would definitely go back!

2.          Night at the Met- The Metropolitan Museum of Art is open until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. I have been to the Met a gazillion times, but I have never been at night. It’s totally a different vibe! I kind of loved it. I think it’s a fun way to spend a weekend evening.

3.          Abercrombie black boucle blazer- This blazer pictured above is a fan favorite! It looks way more expensive than it actually is. It’s really nicely made and is sure to gain lots of compliments.

4.          Casa Bocado- I went on a Saturday night to this SOHO spot and it was empty…kind of odd, but the food was delicious, so not sure why it was a ghost town! I loved the carne asada tacos, guac and shrimp tostadas.

5.          Abraço- If you love a quiet cafe for your morning coffee, this is not the place for you. At 11am on a Sunday, this tiny, tucked away cafe was lively with regulars and music. The hot chocolate with whipped cream was to die for, paired with my warm cinnamon babka.

Five Friday Favorites | 60 | Hunger Games, Thin Crust Pizza, NYC Christmas Themed Bar & More

petes tavern, christmas bar, nyc christmas bar, nyc christmas, holiday themed bar

1.          Solidcore- I am a huge fan. I’ve been going since this summer and I feel like I’m in such great shape thanks to this cardio meets Pilates class! I’m almost on 40 classes and they keep getting harder!!!

2.          Posto- Such a delicious spot for thin crust pizza! It’s a great neighborhood spot.

3.          Mint tea- I am not really a hot beverage person, but I have really been loving a hot cup of mint tea. Great for digestion too.

4.          The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes movie- Michelle, Giorgia and I went to see the Hunger Games prequel Tuesday night before Thanksgiving. This was the first book in the Hunger Games series I hadn’t read. But regardless, this movie was so good. It’s two and a half hours long, but the time flew by! I highly recommend. I might even see it again! I love the Hunger Games, so this movie was a real treat.

5.          Pete’s Tavern- This Gramercy spot is one of the oldest bars in the city and it will put you right into the holiday cheer! Beautifully decorated for the holidays, this is a fun spot to grab a festive cocktail with friends (especially if you don’t want to wait in line at Rolf’s- another Christmas themed bar).

Abercrombie Athletic Clothes: YPB Review

abercrombie athletic clothes, Abercrombie, your personal best, ypb, leggings, workout clothes, exercise clothes

If you haven’t noticed, Abercrombie has completely transformed over the past several years. I was an original Abercrombie girl, that faded, as did the brand once controversial things came to light, but now they are back and better than ever, just like my love for the brand.

When I was in elementary and middle school, Abercrombie had their moose logo on everything and did not have an athletic clothing line.

When I became reintroduced to the brand when they re-released their company, I fell in love with most of their clothes. I was so impressed. So when they came out with their affordable athletic clothing line called, “Your Personal Best,” I was really excited to try the pieces.

My favorite part of the collection is the leggings. For under $50 (on sale- which they often are) they are pretty incredible. They have the perfect amount of stretch and support, that holds everything in place. Even on me, at 5’9”, they are super high waisted. They come in short, regular and long lengths. I personally like a cropped legging, so I get the regular length, even though, the long length would be perfect for me. YPB sculptLUX 7/8-Length Leggings are the only bottoms I wear currently for exercise.

I cannot speak more highly of these athletic leggings. I have over a dozen pairs. Unfortunately, I have had a couple of pairs where the threads have come loose after a dozen washes, but I contacted customer service and I was given replacement pairs.

Until a couple of months ago, YPB only had “long lined sports bras” which I am not a fan of. They are supposed to replace regular sports bras by being long enough to be both a crop top and a sports bra. I don’t find these tops to be supportive or flattering as they roll up (I have a couple). Also, I don’t like showing my stomach during exercising, so I prefer to wear a regular sports bra with a tank top.

With that being said, the only things I think the collection is missing are good sports bras and tank tops. They have released a couple of tanks and sports bras, but that’s still not enough for me not to shop elsewhere for tops and bras.

The shorts are great too! I have split shorts and unlined shorts. I personally hate shorts and hardly ever wear them because they always make my legs look wide because they always cut my leg off in a weird spot, but, less so with these.

If you are interested in trying out the brand, now’s the time as there is free shipping and an extra 15% off in cart.

Five Friday Favorites | 59 | Sezane, Netflix Shows, West Village Bars, Best Chocolate Cake and Creamy Pasta Recipe

french style, parisienne style, netflix documentary, west village, west village bar, chocolate cake, nyc dessert, nyc chocolate cake, creamy spinach tortellini with shrimp

1.          Sezane- This is the most beautiful French brand. Their sweaters are stunning. I toured the store on Elizabeth Street in NoLita. I have my eyes on this cardigan and this one

2.          David Beckham documentary on Netflix-  He’s beautiful and so is his wife. I loved getting to see inside their seemingly very normal lives. He’s an incredible athlete.

3.          Due West- My friends and I have come to the sad realization that at 25 and 26, we have outgrown the East Village party scene. We are now officially venturing to the West Village for bars. I checked out Due West the other night and it was great! Tiny spot inside but good drinks and good vibes! Lots of seating too, so if that is more your vibe, this is a great spot to check out.

4.          Chocolate cake from Little Cupcake Bake Shop- Ranked the best chocolate cake in New York, at $10 a slice, I was expecting perfection, and it was! Highly recommend going to Prince Street for a slice or a cupcake.

5.          Creamy spinach tortellini with shrimp- I found this recipe on Pinterest. This recipe is full of cheesy goodness! Highly recommend for people without a dairy allergy.

Veja Review: Campo vs. Esplar

veja sneakers, casual fall outfit, fall outfit with sneakers, white sneakers, white tennis shoes, white leather sneakers, white leather trainers, white leather tennis shoes, white shoes

These beautiful French white leather sneakers have taken the shoe game by storm. Ethically produced in Brazil, these unisex tennis shoes are tough to find in the states, pricier than your average pair of lace-up white shoes, but incredibly on-trend, at the same time being classic and a staple in my wardrobe.

In college, I wore Converse to parties. I graduated and started visiting Manhattan often, and realized I needed a white sneaker. White leather sneakers truly go with everything. My first pair was from J.Crew. Then I upgraded to Stan Smiths. The year after I went one step further and got a pair of Esplar Veja sneakers with the signature “V” logo in hot pink. After that, I purchased the Campo in rose gold.

Before I get into the comparison of the two different models, let me say that for both styles of shoes you have to size up. The shoes run very very very small. I am a true EU 40 and I have to wear a 41 in these. Unfortunately, the brand does not do half sizes, so when in doubt, size up.

These shoes also sell out incredibly fast in the US. I was on a wait list for months for the rose gold Campo shoes. Nordstrom is my go-to spot to find them.

They are way easier to find in France. Alex bought a pair while we were there this summer. They are also cheaper by about $40-50 in Europe plus a VAT refund.

Both pairs are incredibly easy to wipe down with a paper towel and some water. I have easily done hundreds of miles in each pair.

Esplar

            My first pair

            Flat leather, not as flexible

            Thinner sole

            Squeezes my toes

Campo (as pictured)

            Pebbled leather

            Thicker sole

            Very supportive

            Never got any blisters

I highly recommend the Campo. They are way more comfortable in my opinion and I am already eyeing my next pair. If you want a pair, snag them FAST!

Five Friday Favorites | 58 | Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in NYC, Family Style Dinner, Favorite Salad & Customizable Tote Bag

five friday favs, lady jacket, pleated skirt, nyc restaurants, nyc food, chocolate chip cookies, family style restaurant nyc, customizable tote bag, favorite lunch spot, favorite salad, marathon sunday

1.          Maman chocolate chip cookies- One of the best cookies in NYC is from Levain, but Maman may have topped the cookie charts. Levain is known for their super thick cookies, that feel like a block of bricks. The Maman cookie is less thick, but the same kind of gooeyness. Highly recommend!

2.          Marathon Sunday- The energy on Marathon Sunday is electric and honestly moving. All these people, from all walks of life, can put aside their differences to cheer on complete strangers, is kind of incredible. We went up to mile 15 on 1st Ave and saw the elites and even fellow Deac, Matt James! One of my favorite days in New York.

3.          Ainslie- This is a really fun place for a group dinner! I went to a birthday dinner at the Brooklyn location and loved it. The family style food was perfect for a big group. We had steak, fries, penne pasta, pizza, rice balls, burrata, calamari, Caesar salad, and the list goes on!

4.          Just Salad with crispy chicken aka chicken nuggets- I always bring my lunch for work from home, so I am going to treat myself and buy lunch every Friday from somewhere new so I can explore the neighborhood around my office. I made a list the other day of all the spots I want to try. My first stop was Just Salad. It’s the same idea as Chopt or Sweet Green, but this one seems to be my favorite so far because they have crispy chicken which literally tastes like chicken nuggets.

5.          Barrington tote bag- I love this bag for work and every day. It’s a slim tote bag, so perfect for a laptop or planner and some notebooks.

Five Friday Favorites | 57 | Holiday Clothes, NYC Restaurants, NYC Rooftop Bar & Favorite Margarita Recipe

five friday favs, weekly favs, holiday clothes, holiday collection, antonio melani, dillards holiday collection, dillards dresses, nyc food, nyc restaurants, marg recipe, margarita recipe, nyc rooftop bar, nyc bar

 1.          Antonio Melani x Born on 5th holiday collection- The perfect party dresses and accessories. The Catherine dress, Constance jacket and the Elle shoes are all to die for!

2.          Little Ruby’s Cafe- Try the onion dip, cheese burger and sweet potato fries! You won’t be disappointed. You may, however, be disappointed in the staff trying to push you out of table even after you’ve only been there for 40 minutes… but besides that, it was a good meal.

3.          Margarita recipe- This is the only margarita recipe I will drink! It’s 2 oz tequila, 1 oz Cointreau and 1 oz like juice (and a splash of seltzer if you’re feeling fun!)

4.          Legasea Bar & Grill- Before a show at MSG, grab some mini weenies and fried chicken sandwiches at this restaurant in the Moxy Hotel.

5.          Brass Monkey- If you want a rooftop bar, head to Brass Monkey in meatpacking for great views and rude bouncers. This three-story bar is fun and pretty low key. If you go before 11, there isn’t a cover charge.
