A Holiday Vacation in Montauk, New York

This past week I escaped to Montauk, New York, the end of Long Island, for a much-needed getaway.

This was my first time in Montauk during the winter. It was very quiet.

Most days the sky was gray, and the town was the sleepy fishermen town it is known for being. But we had a couple of beautiful and sunny days, just like in the summer.

In the summer, the Hamptons and Montauk are hopping. The beaches are overcrowded. You can barely get a dinner reservation. It’s fun and loud. But during the winter, it seems to be only locals and folks like us, escaping for a couple of days. It was so peaceful and relaxing, it felt like a real vacation.

We watched lots of movies, cooked delicious food, drank rich wine, slept a lot and explored.

We took a walk on the beach.

We dined at Scarpetta Beach one night.

We got pizza, sat in the car and watched the fishing boats come into Montauk Harbor.

We went for a hike at Camp Hero and saw the lighthouse.

It was a wonderful getaway and I would highly recommend exploring the sleepy town of Montauk in the off season and experience the charm of the sleepiness.
